About Us

Behind the college on a Virginia hilltop in 1963, a 19-year-old boy wrestled with his destiny. Ten p.m. came and went, stars shone in the dark night. My friend Richard prayed for me and then sang the old hymn “Just as I Am”. I broke. I wept. I said, “Okay, Lord, I’ll follow you wherever you lead, even to the mission field.”

God gave me Helen so we could walk life’s pathway together. Her heart was already for missions. Three weeks after we married in 1964, we were on the mission field in Northern Canada. From then till now has been a long time and a good time—with some hard times. Canada, Alaska, Yemen, England, and places between. We raised two sons on the mission field. Since 1984 we’ve served with Mercy Ships—many countries, many ports, and many opportunities to prove Him faithful.

Retire? No. We’re committed to keeping on. And He promises to be with us — Along the Road.
